Prospectus

     In today's food industry, companies handle allot of different produce at one time.  Because of this many different vegetables are being processed at the same time, using the same machines.  If any one of those vegetables happened to be contaminated by an outside source during harvest, that vegetable can bring that bacteria into the factory and transfer it to the other vegetables.  The contaminated vegetables will then be eaten by humans that will then digest it, making them sick.  Same goes for the animals, many of the animals that we eat are herbivores.  If a farmer puts contaminated vegetables into the animals feed, when they are then sent to the slaughter house and sold for consumption, the bacteria that is in the meat can then be transferred to the humans eating it.
    In my research I would like to find what food borne illnesses are out there?  How they can effect the food supply and human race?  and what can be done to prevent this from happening?  I hope to use first hand accounts of people who have suffered from an food-borne illness, how it has effected them or there life?  What areas these illnesses are most common in and why?  and How can these illnesses be transmitted and then cured?

Also Internet sources, newspaper, and magazine articles all having to do with my topic of food-borne illnesses.

    This is a good prospectus, you know what your talking about and you sound like your interesting in what your talking about which makes what will be your future essay be interesting. I like your plan on how your going to research your paper because it sounds like its going to end up a good paper. Best of luck!

  2. Informative topic. I am not sure what the thesis statement was? Did I miss it? Overall the topic is good and will turn out an interesting paper :)

  3. I like your view on food-borne illnesses in the way that one type of food can contaminate the other simply by being next to it. Try to focus on the main illnesses that come from contamination such as salmonella, E. coli, large amounts of mercury in fish and etc. You should also try to interview people that have worked in contaminated factories or people with experience working in these bad conditions.

  5. This is a very good proposal for a research paper. However, I advise you to narrow your topic so that you don't end up speaking too generally about food-borne illnesses; remember, you want to get into the "nitty gritty" details, developing as much expertise as possible. For example, after introducing the phenomenon of food-borne illnesses, you might focus on one specific illness, transmission vector, or other aspect of the problem (regulatory failures, industry and government responses, and so forth). Since you mention the role of centralized food processing in your prospectus, this could be the very focus you're looking for.
